Souled Out

So I’m not a music critic or anything but I just felt I had to express my admiration for this album.

I remember watching one of her Breakfast Club interviews where she was explaining her love for word play. To many, ‘souled out’ might sound like a spiritual warfare where one’s soul is up for grabs. However, Miss Aiko herself has explained how the album means the complete opposite. Whether this is true or not, I’ve chosen to believe her because I’m trying to be more optimistic about things these days.

From what I’ve heard, the album is about how life deserves to be filled with happiness despite the bumps we all meet on the way. I absolutely love how calming the whole album is and despite her amazing connects, there isn’t any elaborate production included. It’s simple, It’s raw, It’s real.

‘If there’s one thing that I learned
While in those county lines
It’s that everything takes time
You have gotta lose your pride
You have gotta lose your mind
Just to find your peace of mind
You have got to trust the signs
Everything will turn out fine’

-Bridge from ‘W.A.Y.S’ by Jhené Aiko. It’s an acronym for ‘Why Aren’t You Smiling’.

Smile. Be happy. Life is too short not to be.

Peace & Love,

T
