O.C.T : Obsessive Compulsive Thinker

So this is such a small and insignificant thing that happened but, it made me think.

So I’m currently on my way to a magazine meeting and as always I have earphones practically glued to my ears. The song ‘Hear you Me’ by Jimmy Eat World comes on and I’m like ‘yeah, I know the words’. So in my head I’m humming, ‘welcome to the ciiiityyy’ and these are awkwardly not the words let alone the tune.

So then I begin to ponder what song I was spewing out. As I type this, I’m still confused about it which kinda makes me laugh cause it’s like, why can’t I enjoy the beautiful melody this band created instead of thinking so deeply about what song I thought it was?!

This made me realise how overboard I can get in my thoughts and planning and is yet another reminder that I need to curb this attitude. I think it’s mainly because I now find it hard to be in the moment and that’s something after watching the mind-boggling ‘Lucy’, I don’t want to lose. Without giving much away, the movie shows what happens when we humans over-aspire to reach the highest place of knowledge and authority – we basically lose everything that makes us human; including the ability to enjoy moments and not constantly look to ‘what’s next’.

It’s ironic how my favourite quote of all time used to be: ‘You never know what life is like until you’ve lived it’ (which Marilyn Monroe supposedly said) yet I’m so caught up in the ‘what’s nexts’ that I don’t heed to these words that I deemed my ‘favourite’.

I’m truly getting a wake-up call that life is worth living, and I’m glad I’m getting it at the tender age of 17 because I have so much more of it to live.

Peace & Love,

T
